Sigtuna sits on Lake Mälaren, 50 kilometres north-west of Stockholm. Founded around 980 AD, it is the oldest town in Sweden, with rune stones, 12th-century church ruins, and one of the best-preserved medieval main streets in the country. The drive up the E4 takes about 50 minutes.
Day trippers for the old town, the church ruins, and the lakeside walks. Corporate retreats at Sigtunastiftelsen, Sigtunahöjden, or one of the lake-view hotels — Sigtuna is a popular conference destination for off-site meetings. Visitors continuing on to Skokloster Castle (30 minutes further west, one of Europe’s best-preserved Baroque palaces) or the surrounding Lake Mälaren archipelago.
E4 north from Stockholm to the Sigtuna exit, then Route 263 west into town. The drive passes Arlanda Airport — if you need an airport stop on the way, easy to add. Door-to-door from any Stockholm address.
